Announced Tuesday, Wild Terrains' Oaxaca trip consists of a five-day journey where guests will try their hand at natural textile dye, attend a mezcal tasting and dinner party in the middle of an agave field, learn about indigenous plant medicine, and connect with the women shaping Oaxacan culture today. Courtesy of Wild Terrains “This trip is all about celebrating the women who are the backbone of Oaxaca,” Lauren Bates, the founder and CEO of Wild Terrains, shared with Travel + Leisure. “We’ve curated an immersive itinerary in collaboration with the most talented women in Oaxaca that allows travelers to deeply connect with the local food, art, and rituals.” During the trip, guests will stay at women-owned Casa Antonieta, a former convent and historic mansion converted into a boutique hotel by Teresa Ramirez and her son, Helwig. The hotel, located on a quiet side street just a few blocks away from the main city square, comes with just nine rooms, each decorated with local artwork and a dreamy neutral palette that will instantly put your mind in a calmer state. And, as Bates noted about the hotel, its best asset is its lush, plant-filled rooftop terrace overlooking the city, which is the prime spot to unwind after a day of exploration. It’s perfect for anyone looking for creative inspiration through culinary experiences, textiles, and community.” The itinerary also includes a visit to Zapotec ruins of Yagul which includes a meeting with one of the only women-run mezcal distilleries in Oaxaca and a dinner hosted by young female chef Thalia Barrios García. The trip to Oaxaca is available over four dates — March 24-28, 2023; May 26-30, 2023; November 10-14, 2023; and December 1-5, 2023. The trip includes accommodations, most meals, all activities, transportation, a dedicated travel guide, and a Wild Terrains tote bag so you can easily carry all your new souvenirs. The trip starts at $3,290 per person. However, this isn’t the company’s only destination in 2023.
