I’m a Frequent Flier, and This Amazon Matching Set Is My Hack for Being Stylish Yet Comfortable During Travel

One of the hazards of the hours of online shopping research I do for my job as a writer covering the best travel products on the market? The constant temptation to shop for myself. And after scrolling past this top-selling two-piece lounge set at Amazon dozens of times in the course of my research, I finally caved and bought it for myself to see what all the fuss was about. After all, the price point was under $40, a small investment for an entire travel-ready ensemble with more than 1,600 five-star reviews — and free overnight shipping for Prime members to boot.

First, the basics. The set is stretchy and drapey, thanks to a viscose-nylon blend fabric that has an overall thicker feel (aka it’s more like a sweater than a T-shirt). The pants have a generous wide leg and elastic waist, and the crew-neck top has a side-split hem with a low-high cut in the front and back. I chose the “apricot” (I’d call it more like off-white) with a black piping throughout that makes it look elevated. I intended to wear it exclusively for travel, but I debuted it at an industry event in town and got two compliments on the street before I even got in my car. Promising!

Next, I put it to the test on a travel day. I was heading to Dallas to cover the eclipse and called a rideshare to take me to LAX for the journey. When I approached the Lyft with my roller bag — and this is a true story — the driver said, “Are you an actress? Model? You look so classy.” Ha! And all this feedback for an outfit that cost approximately the same price as an airport breakfast.

By then, it was clear to me that the lounge set pulls off the desired effect of looking more elevated than a sweatsuit but still feeling as comfy as pajamas for travel days. So after a three-hour flight and checking into my hotel room, I simply changed out my flats for a pair of wedges and wore the same outfit straight to dinner at the hotel’s stylish rooftop restaurant. Being so versatile, I knew then it was bound to be my go-to, travel-day set. 

And I’m far from the only one: This popular and highly reviewed set has well over 1,600 five-star ratings and counting. “This is super comfortable, easy to wear and great for travel — you can dress it up with heels or [wear] a cute sport shoe and cute purse, out the door you go looking very put together and stylish,” one wrote. And another noted the ensemble is a passable dupe for designer looks, calling it “very classy looking, like a St. John or Chanel outfit.”

I will warn that the apricot color, despite its thickness, is a bit sheer. (I imagine this isn’t the case with any of the darker colors.) And I haven’t washed it enough to truly put it to the test (some reviewers note it doesn’t hold up flawlessly to machine washing and drying). So I would recommend washing it in cold water and hanging it to dry.

But for the price — and for the number of compliments I’ve received already — it’s an absolute slam dunk. I’m thrilled with my purchase and expect to log many miles wearing it. If you’re looking for a comfy, classy, can’t-miss travel outfit, I’d highly recommend you do the same.
