Mexico’s Valle de Guadalupe may be known as Baja California’s food and wine capital and a favorite destination among locals, but the scenic region, dominated by endless vineyards and desert landscapes, is now a wellness spot, too. On Jan. 15, the area welcomed Montevalle Health & Wellness Resort, a luxury, all-inclusive, adults-only destination focusing on detox, holistic therapies, and innovative treatments.

Sitting on 10 hectares of Mediterranean-like landscapes with olive trees, lavender plants, and vineyards, the serene property features 14 one-bedroom villas (with six more in the works) and a heated pool with a Jacuzzi, along with a number of wellness facilities such as a reflexology path, a meditation labyrinth, a spa, and a tennis court.

Tijuana-based interior designer Mariana Postlethwaite infused tranquility and timeless elegance into the accommodations and public spaces through a mix of rustic and contemporary elements. The resort’s surroundings inspired the earthy color palette, and many indigenous plants were incorporated into the décor and landscape to create a stronger sense of place.

But the focus of Montevalle, which is dreamt up by owner and natural wellness practitioner Dr. Carlos Bautista, is its cutting-edge program blending state-of-the-art treatments with a holistic approach to health.

Guests can choose to stay for a day or spend more time and try out one of the resort’s all-inclusive plans that include health consultations, daily massages, vitamin IV drips, biomagnetic therapy, rife therapy, laser therapy, and even wine therapy that uses grapes to stimulate the immune system.

Naturally, food is a major element of the resort’s wellness offerings. Bautista tapped culinary veteran chef Raul Nuñez to create the restaurant’s menu (including snacks) that changes daily based on seasonal ingredients.

“The beauty and tranquility of Valle de Guadalupe, Baja México, inspired me to create Montevalle Health and Wellness Resort — a relaxed place away from the noise and stress of everyday life, where people can enjoy a retreat and reconnect with themselves while receiving the most efficient and advanced holistic protocols,” Bautista told Travel + Leisure.

Rates at Montevalle Health & Wellness Resort start at $250 for a day visit and $495 a night.
