That said, the laundry list of amenities Halcyon provides is meant to inspire exploration outside the room and beyond the property. One of my favorite perks is the Halcyon Wellness Passport, which allows guests access to a handful of fitness studios in the neighborhood. There’s also the Gear Garage, a room full of bikes, tennis racquets, scooters, sleds, cameras, and more to make your visit to Denver all the more exciting. The lobby-level kitchen counter is also a popular amenity, where you can pick up fruit and muffins in the morning, coffee throughout the day, and wine in the afternoon. And if that’s not enough, Halcyon has a rooftop pool deck (with hot tubs), too. What to Consider There aren’t a lot of amenities – there is no pool and the gym is on the small side. Designed to look like a sumptuous Parisian salon, The Ramble (a winner in our 2023 World’s Best Awards) delivers a heightened interior experience that you simply won’t find elsewhere in Denver. Think: huge crystal chandeliers, mix-and-match textiles in the bedrooms, and textured surfaces from velvet to leather. What to Consider The hotel can get a bit loud, which may not be ideal if you're looking for a more serene stay. The Maven, which opened in the bustling Dairy Block in 2017, has some of the brightest hotel rooms around thanks to loft-style units with floor-to-ceiling windows. The 172 rooms come in a number of categories, from standard doubles to larger themed suites to rooms with bunk beds, meaning the hotel can easily accommodate different traveler styles. What to Consider The public spaces are shared with the members club so expect them to be crowded at times. It’s hard to find a boutique hotel in Denver with as many guest amenities as the Clayton, which opened in the affluent Cherry Creek neighborhood in 2021. The 63-room property, the first members club-hotel hybrid in the city, comes with multiple restaurants (including one in the members club and a fabulous rooftop pizza parlor that regularly hosts events), a gym with a ton of equipment, and a pool. What to Consider It’s a large hotel, which may be a consideration for travelers looking for something quieter and more intimate. One of the anchor properties of the McGregor Square development adjacent to Coors Field (where the Colorado Rockies play), The Rally offers one of the most unique hotel locations in the city. In fact, of the 182 rooms, you’ll want to ask for one on a higher floor where the windows peek directly into the stadium. Though there is a subtle baseball theme running through the hotel (like a color scheme that nods to the hometown team), The Rally is actually much more rooted in Americana rather than sports. The on-site restaurant, The Original, feels like a modernized diner serving up chicken pot pies and deviled eggs. The rooftop gym and plunge pool are some of the best you’ll find in Denver. And as a guest of the hotel, you’re treated to lots of discounts to neighboring businesses in McGregor Square, too. What to Consider There isn’t much going on in this pocket of the RiNo Arts District. Modernly designed, spacious rooms and countless on-site amenities make this extended-stay hotel the best lodging option for digital nomads. Loft-style rooms (which range from studios to multi-bedroom units) are cleverly designed to maximize space. For example, storage and desks can often be tucked under the loft so you can use that newly vacated space for simple workouts. Laundry facilities and water stations on every floor cover your basic needs, but more next-level perks include hot tubs on the rooftop; a well-equipped gym; a playroom stuffed with bikes, Vespas, cooking appliances, and GoPros; and a seasonal rooftop bar and restaurant. New York City design firm Parts & Labor dreamt up the sexy, mid-century-modern style of the Thompson’s 216 rooms and suites, which opened in 2022. The sleek but youthful aesthetic is one of the most striking in Denver, and thus, the property typically attracts young professionals who want all the perks of a global hospitality chain plus the cool factor that Thompson provides with its buzzing bars and restaurants. And for the latter, they have their pick of three distinct venues: Chez Maggy, Ludo Lefebvre’s first restaurant outside Los Angeles, Bar M, and Reynard Social, which regularly hosts themed dance parties throughout the week. What to Consider Though located right by the Denver Art Museum and the Clyfford Still Museum, there’s little else within easy walking distance of the hotel. One of Denver’s first art-obsessed hotels and a 2021 World’s Best Awards winner, The Art Hotel is full of fantastic pieces (by the likes of Leo Villareal and Ed Ruscha) selected by Dianne Vanderlip, former curator of modern and contemporary art at the Denver Art Museum. The collection creates a beautiful mosaic competitive with the best museums in the city. The 165 rooms are fairly minimal in style, but they’re all brightened by prints and lithographs that reinforce the property’s artsy bonafides. The bathrooms are pretty great, too, with plenty of marble surfaces and high-quality amenities (that you’re free to take home) by Lather. Interiors are sleek and modern — designed to make you feel as if you’re staying in a high-end residence in the heart of the city’s downtown. And the marble bathrooms that come in every guest room are spacious and luxurious. But on top of the primo guest room experience, the hotel also features one of the more photogenic interior design schemes in Denver thanks to decor that combines the romance of the Victorian-era with the adventurousness of the Gold Rush. But the most important thing is to allow your body to slowly acclimate to the altitude, so be sure to stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water. You should also ease into more demanding physical activity (like exercise or hiking) as the decrease in air pressure means you won't be getting as much oxygen. Pack layers Denver has year-round mild temperatures and dry desert conditions. The lack of humidity helps, but the weather can change quickly and you’ll want to be prepared. You’ll find locals wearing Patagonia’s lightweight quilted jackets everywhere, from breweries and restaurants to the hiking trails. Moisturize and wear sunscreen Because of Denver’s altitude and dryness, you need to moisturize more frequently than you think. And on warm sunny days, the city’s elevation will make the sun feel fiercer on your skin so don’t forget to regularly apply (and re-apply) sunscreen and wear a hat for added coverage. Mind the resort fee Most hotels in Denver include a resort fee that covers additional amenities. (This fee might be called different things in different hotels.) Some properties have very basic perks attached to this fee, like the inclusion of Wi-Fi or the water housekeeping leaves in your room. At other hotels, you may receive more fabulous add-ons such as on-site happy hour or discounts at their restaurants. This fee typically starts from $20 a night and isn’t included in the booking rate. There’s no getting out of these fees, so prior to booking, make sure you ask the hotel what you will get out of it.
